Men’s Cross Country Claims Fifth at Bates Invitational

AUBURN, Maine – Suffolk men's cross country put together a fifth-place performance at the Bates Invitational at Roy's Golf Center. 

The Rams, who were ranked eighth in the East in the week one edition of the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association regional poll, finished with a 121 in its first 8k of the season to upstage Colby, who sat seventh in the first weekly regional poll of the season.  

Tufts topped the six-team field with a 48 with invite host Bates two points behind for second. WPI and Bowdoin shared third with an 83.  

Tim Barry paced Suffolk's pack. The senior captain came through the finisher's chute in 26:50.5 to take 12th. 

Thomas Novy logged a 27:27.7, good for 21st. Luke Sikora was seven spots behind Novy as he clocked in at 27:44.3. 

Sean Jacobsen grabbed 32nd with a 27:52.4 and Jacob Dubin's personal-record 28:18.1 was good for 46th. 

Hayden Green (28:40.1) and Cam Fredette (29:13.8) rounded out Suffolk's point providers in 57th and 70th, respectively.  

Connor Hayward (29:30.9), Conor Garrity (30:25.6) and Kely Maloney (31:46.0) were featured in the field of 97 runners as well. 

RAMS RECORDS

  • Dubin rewrote his 8k record by over 30 seconds.  

DEBUTS

  • Fredette, who factored in the Rams' top seven, made his collegiate debut on the course in Vacation Land. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk, the eighth-ranked team in the East via the week one edition of the USTFCCCA regional poll, beat seventh-ranked Colby by 14 points.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Rams take next weekend off to prep for their trip to Colfax, Wisconsin, which is on tap for Friday, Sept. 29 for the Blugold Invite.
