Csiki-Fejer to Compete at NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships


BOSTON – Following his commanding performance at the NCAA Division III East Regionals, Matyas Csiki-Fejer of the Suffolk men's cross country team will travel down to Louisville, Kentucky to race in the NCAA DIII Cross Country National Championships this Saturday, Nov. 20. The senior captain will run in the men's 8k race at 11 a.m. at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

SUFFOLK ATHLETICS 2021-22 FAN POLICY
Suffolk University Athletics, following guidance from the University's health and safety protocols, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, plans to allow fans to attend home athletic contests during the 2021-22 academic and athletic year.

Fans, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, can attend games. They must be masked the entire time they are on campus, pursuant to institutional policy, and complete a health screening form at the security desk of each building upon arrival. This policy applies to home contests played on campus at the Ridgeway Building's Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, as well as the Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink and the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

For outdoor outings, specifically at East Boston Memorial Park, fans are asked to respect COVID safety protocols. At this time, masks will not be mandated for fans no matter vaccinated status at outdoor venues.

NATIONAL NOTES

  • A total of 32 men's cross country teams – the top seven-person team automatically qualified from each of the 10 regions and 22 additional teams were selected at-large -- will partake in the 2021 edition of the NCAA DIII Championships
  • Along with the 32 seven-person rosters, 70 individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of qualifying team, qualified for the final DIII cross country meet of the year 
  • The men's 8,000-kilometer run will open the day at 11 a.m. 
  • This marks the third time the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will take place in the state of Kentucky, first since 2019.

Spalding University and the Louisville Sports Commission are serving as hosts for the 2021 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

  • Matyas Csiki-Fejer became the first-ever Suffolk male runner to earn his place on the national stage in 2019
  • The Manchester, Missouri native is the second Ram to make a pair of appearances at NCAAs since Emily Manfra did so in 2019
  • Csiki-Fejer is the only Suffolk male to make nationals'
  • Csiki-Fejer will run at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park's 8k course for the second time in his career, first since the 2019 national championships. Two years ago, he crossed the tape in 25:47.5 to finish in the middle of the 280-runner field 

CCC COMPETITIORS AT NCAAs 

  • Matyas Csiki-Fejer became the sixth CCC runner in the last seven seasons to qualify for NCAAs
  • He is the first CCC student-athlete to punch a ticket to the national championships since Jake Hickey of the University of New England did so in 2019
  • Csiki-Fejer looks to upstage Dan McSolla of Wentworth's 8k time of 25:17.8, which put the Leopard in 78th in 2016

CSIKI-FEJER CATCH-UP

  • Csiki-Fejer clocked a personal-record sub-25:00 8-kilometer run this season with a 24:15.4 showing at SUNY Geneseo's Mike Woods Invitational Oct. 2, 2021
  • The senior standout has finished fourth or better in all six meets this year 

ALL-AMERICA UP FOR GRABS
Student-athletes who finish in the top-40 of their respective races this weekend at the 2021 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship in Louisville, Kentucky will earn the distinction of All-America status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). 

ALL-REGION ACCOLADES
Matyas Csiki-Fejer of the Suffolk men's cross country team ran his way to U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East honors. 

Csiki-Fejer was one of 350 men from 128 different programs to pick up an all-region accolade by virtue of a top-35 finish at one of the 10 regional sites this past weekend. Only athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions are eligible for awards.

REGIONALS RECAP
Matyas Csiki-Fejer made good on his impressive regular-season resume and added to it as the Rams captain highlighted the blue-and-gold's men's cross country competitors at the 2021 NCAA Division III East Regionals hosted by Suffolk at Franklin Park Saturday, Nov. 13.

ALL-CONFERENCE
Suffolk men's cross country senior Matyas Csiki-Fejer out run his competition on and off the course to pick up a pair of major Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) awards. The senior captain collected both CCC Runner of the Year and CCC Scholar-Athlete and was one of a trio of blue-and-gold runners to earn all-conference recognition.
