Csiki-Fejer Sweeps GNAC Men’s Cross Country Weekly Awards

BOSTON – Behind his record-setting running over the weekend, Suffolk men's cross country freshman Matyas Csiki-Fejer was named GNAC Runner and Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Csiki-Fejer is the first Ram to sweep the GNAC weekly awards according to online archives and is the first conference-wide student-athlete to sweep the conference's weekly awards this season.

The accolades come after a record-breaking performance for the St. Louis, Missouri local as he produced the fastest 8k time in Suffolk men's cross country history at the 46th annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational on the Robert Dowd Course. His time of 25:39.76 put the Rams' rookie 18th overall in the field of 295 runners, which featured student-athletes from every NCAA Division. His was the first true freshman to cross the finish line as well and was the best GNAC finisher overall in a fielder that featured five of Suffolk's conference counterparts, Colby Sawyer, Emmanuel, Regis, Saint Joseph's (Maine) and Johnson & Wales.

Csiki-Fejer's individual numbers fueled the Rams' team average of 27:35, which also went down as the fastest in school history for a men's 8k race. Overall, he buoyed Suffolk to a 17th-place finish out of the 41 colleges and universities who compete, beating out all five of its league foes, who finished ahead of the Rams in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Suffolk and Csiki-Fejer are back in action this weekend as they travel to Williamstown, Mass., for the Purple Valley Classic Saturday, Sept. 22.
