Dartmouth, Mass. – In just his second collegiate competition, Matyas Csiki-Fejer directed the Suffolk men's cross country team to a 17th-place finish at the 46th Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday afternoon on the Robert Dowd Course.
Csiki-Fejer finished inside the top 20 in a field of 295 runners. The Rams' rookie crossed the 8k course tape in 25:39.76 to place 18th overall, the top performance by a NCAA Division III freshman, as the pack featured student-athletes from every division.
The Saint Louis, Missouri, native's time led the seven Suffolk students that combined for a 17th-place team finish, which landed in the middle of the pack of the 41 college and universities who raced at the Corsairs annual event. Overall, SNHU took home the title with WPI finishing as the runner-up.
Roth Santos landed inside the top 100 as the freshman from came through the finisher's chute in 27:24.17. Thanks to his time of 27:39.89, freshman Kevin Torres placed 105th, while his classmate Nick Malm took 140th, clock in at 28:26.64.
Hunter Toyoda's time of 28:50.31 was good for 155th. Freshmen Joseph Robinson (163rd – 29:06.60), Keoni Geers (166th – 29:10.46) and Jonah Flores (196th – 30:12.62) also ran in the varsity division for the Rams.
Suffolk was represented by a duo in the sub-varsity division as well in rookie Arthur Lacerda (91st – 31:55.06) and sophomore Nicholas Nunez (147th – 38:31.12).
The Rams look to continue to build on its momentum next weekend at the Purple Valley Invitational Saturday, Sept. 22 in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
