Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Runs at UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field sent a baker's dozen Rams up to Lowell, Massachusetts, for the UMass Lowell Invitational at the Cushing Field Complex. 

The largest contingent of Rams was featured in the 1500 with eight blue-and-gold runners in the event that featured 50 participants ranging from every NCAA Division. Tim Barry anchored the group with a 4:07.85 to lock up eighth. Thomas Novy notched a spot in the top 15 as well in 15th with a time of 4:13.01. Hayden Green (4:19.23), Cam Fredette (4:22.10), Jacob Dubin (4:24.27), Sean Jacobsen (4:25.24), Jadan Wenceslao (4:31.44) and Connor Hayward (4:32.42) raced in the event as well. 

Turner Mitchell turned in a 11.96 in the 100, the second-fastest time of any NCAA Division III runner in the event behind Kaden Leonard of Suffolk's Commonwealth Coast Conference counterpart Hartford, who won the event with a flat 11.0.   

Mitchell took 15h in the 200 with a 24.42, directly behind Suffolk's Ioan Pereira, who clocked a 24.39 in his first official outdoor finish. Joshua Durand was two spots behind Mitchell with a 24.54 and John Avakian rounded out the Rams' quartet in the event in 19th thanks to a time of 25.26. 

Durand and Avakian were featured in the 400 as well. Durand turned in a ninth-place performance of 53.49, while Avakian (56.47) finished 16th.  

Kely Maloney made two laps around the track in the 800 in 2:01.65, good for ninth. 

RAMS RECORDS

  • Novy set a personal record of 4:13.01 in the 1500. 
  • Avakian had a personal-best in the 400 of 56.47.

  • Fredette made his outdoor debut Saturday in the 1500.
