Men’s Indoor Track & Field Begins Year at Suffolk Relays

BOSTON – For the second straight season, Suffolk men's indoor track & field began its campaign as the host at the Suffolk Relays Saturday at the Track at New Balance. Eleven Rams competed across nine events. The Rams were featured in sprinting events with a mix of throwers and jumpers. 

REGIONAL RAMS

  • Carter Nevulis highlighted the blue-and-gold at the season-opening meet as the senior sealed his spot at NCAA Division III New Englands in the 60 hurdles as he dashed to a fourth-place finish in the field of 29 with a time of 8.63.  

RAMS RECORDS
Eight new personal-best were etched in the season-opener Saturday. 

  • Turner Mitchell and John Avakian both rewrote their PRs in the 60 and 200. The former clocked a 7.40 and 23.83, while the latter raced a 7.67 and 24.26. 
  • Joshua Durand produced career-highs in the 200 (24.02) and 400 (53.48).
  • Ben Berman, who was featured in the 60 (8.20), clocked a personal-best in the 200 (26.82).
  • Nevulis notched a PR in the long jump with a 6.06, good for 19th in the field of 46. 

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Eddie McCarthy was the lone Suffolk thrower to compete in the season opener. The junior heaved the shot put 10.08 meters to claim 30th.

RELAY RAMS

  • The Rams put together one relay team in the meet as Avakian, Mitchell and Nevulis and Durand combined forces in the 4x200 (1:35.92).

Five freshmen made their collegiate debuts in Ioan Pereira (60, 200), Andrew Tansil (60, 200, 300), Brendan Eddy(60), Owen Campbell (pole vault) and Michael Frodelius (long jump).
