Men’s Indoor Track & Field Favorites for Inaugural GNAC Championships

WINTHROP, Mass. – Suffolk men's indoor track & field has been predicted to take home the first-ever title at the inaugural GNAC Championships this weekend in a vote by the league's six head coaches.

The Rams received five of the six first-place nods to finish atop the standings with 35 points. Saint Joseph's (Maine) earned one first-place vote to slide into second with 29 points and Regis completes the top three with 24 points.

Emmanuel (19), Colby Sawyer (12) and Lasell (7) round out the league's six squads.

Will Feldman has compiled a roster filled with speed, agility and athleticism. Over the nine weeks leading up to the conference championships Suffolk has made its name known on the league and regional stage.

Both Michael Balestra and Matyas Csiki-Fejer have already garnered their places at New Englands. Balestra sealed his spot in the weight throw, while Csiki-Fejer punched his ticket three times in the mile, 1,000 and 3K.

When it comes to conference weekly awards, the Suffolk name has been no stranger. Of the 18 awards presented, the Rams have taken home 11. Connor Baston leads the way with five weekly accolades, four rookie of the week and one co-athlete of the week.

Balestra, meanwhile, has been the only student-athlete in the league to be tabbed the best field athlete over a seven day stretch since the award was handed out Jan. 27. The Suffolk sophomore holds three weekly nods.

Csiki-Fejer owns a pair of track athlete of the week awards and Robert Solari rounds out the Rams recognized by the league with a track athlete of the week honor of his own.

Suffolk heads across town to Boston University's Track & Tennis Center Sunday, Feb. 16 for the first-ever GNAC Championship. Field events on Sunday morning with begin at 11 a.m., with the full-day schedule going until approximately 5 p.m., at which point the GNAC will conduct a post-meet ceremony recognizing event winners and top team finishers.

All student-athletes who top their respective events will take home conference champion and all-conference status.
