Men’s Indoor Track & Field Claims Seventh at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – Suffolk men's indoor track & field opened their second semester schedule with a seventh-place performance at the Tufts Invitational Saturday at the Gantcher Center.  

Connor Baston highlighted the Rams at the event. The freshman put together the best time by a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) student-athlete in the 200 this season, finishing the course in 23.58, to finish fourth overall out of 35 foes. He was joined in the event by sophomore Robert Solari, who's time of 24.15 was good for 14th, and classmate Joshua Smithwho took 23rd with a time of 25.18.  

In addition to his running event, Solari signed up for the high jump. He cleared 1.80 meters, which was good for seventh Saturday, but marks the second highest GNAC jump this year.  

Baston also took part in the 60-meter dash, where he put together a time of 7.39 to take 11th out of 32 runners.  

Connor Abbotoni was a first-timer in the 400. The Rams' rookie topped all GNAC competitors this year in the event with his first-go at it. Abbotoni completed his lap around the track in 51.19 to take eighth in the field of 20, which featured his classmate Joshua Smith (54.81 –10th) and Suffolk sophomore Ben Cvitkusic (1:02.20 – 20th).  

Tristan Smith made his collegiate debut in the 60-meter hurdles where he put together the second fastest time in the GNAC this season, 10.14, to take 15th Saturday. 

Suffolk's distance runners faired in the middle of the packs in their respective events.  

Cole Bolduc ran the 600 for the first time in his career. The freshman finished in 1:28.64 to take ninth overall. Joseph Robinson's 2:14.67 800 time put the sophomore in third, while Keoni Geers' 5:08.12 mile was good for eighth.  

Hunter Toyoda (9:39.93) and Justin Turner (9:46.17) each competed in the 3000. 

Suffolk had a large ontingent in the field events.  

Michael Power and Michael Balestra concentrated on single events. Power pushed the shot put 10.25 meters and Balestra registered a 14.46-meter weight throw toss to claim sixth.  

Matthew Sambucetti and Frank Irizarry competed in both events. 

Overall, Suffolk totaled 18 team points to finish seventh overall with Bridgewater State winning the meet with 154.50 total points. 

The Rams second keeps going this weekend when a group heads to Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic this weekend, Jan. 24-25.
