UMass Boston Spoils Men’s Tennis Season Opener

BOSTON – The Suffolk men's tennis team fell in its season opener 7-2 to UMass Boston Thursday night at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.

RECORDS: Suffolk (0-1) | UMass Boston (2-5) 

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons took a 2-1 lead into singles action. UMass grabbed a 3-1 advantage with a victory on the top court, but Omar Azzaoui trimmed the margin back to one with a victory in the third spot. The Rams could not complete the comeback, however, as the Beacons went on to grab the remaining courts for the final 7-2 margin. 

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS

  • The tandem of Azzaoui and Chris Parnagian picked up the first doubles point of 2017 with the freshman and sophomore taking down Onkgoptse Mokoka and Tin Tran 8-4 in the second slot.
  • Azzaoui was the lone Ram to earn a singles point as the Miami Beach, Florida product took down Tran on the third court to remain unbeaten in his collegiate career.
