BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer steps away from Commonwealth Coast Conference competition Tuesday, Sept. 19 when it welcomes Mass. Maritime to James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park for a 7 p.m. meeting.

LAST TIME OUT
Four different players potted the rock in the first half and Xander Balog was perfect in net to push Suffolk men's soccer to a 4-0 victory over Wentworth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference debut Friday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

SUFFOLK SCORES

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk snapped a two-game skid Friday night with its 4-0 shutout over Wentworth to move to 3-2-1 overall. 

The Rams' 10-goal offense has a trio of players with multiple goals as Brady SorensenMatthew Belluardo and Diego Pierantozzi have scored two goals apiece. Sorensen has dished out one assist to sit atop the squad with five points. Tommy Handelsman and Miguel Varela have handed out two helpers apiece.  

Xander Balog and Nathan Harlow have split time in net. Balog boasts a 1.00 GAA and .714 save percentage with a 2-0-01 ledger and a pair of shutouts. Harlow, meanwhile, brings in a 1.00 GAA and .833 save percentage for a 1-1-0 record.

BUCCANEERS BREAKDOWN
After defeating Regis (2-1) in its 2023 debut, Mass. Maritime has tied New York Maritime (2-2) and fallen to Curry (5-3) Nichols (5-1) and Westfield State (3-2), to hold a 1-3-1 overall mark.  

The Buccaneers have poured in 10 goals through give games this season. Brody Calvert and CJ Vincent have powered the scoring with nine points apiece on identical four-goal, one-assist stat lines. 

Kaden Winter is MMA's usual go-to goalie. In five games, all starts, he has assembled a 3.06 GAA and .674 save percentage.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The Suffolk, Mass. Maritime rivalry dates back to 1989. 
  • Suffolk owns a 5-10-1 all-time record against the Buccaneers. 
  • The Rams have won the last two meetings in shutout fashion including last season's 7-0 triumph Sept. 5, 2022.
  • Those two triumphs were the first two shutouts over MMA. There have been four shutouts total in the all-time series. The Rams are 2-2-0 in such instances. 
  • The only tie between the programs came Aug. 31, 2019, which was the only overtime outing between the programs as well. That game ended in a 1-all draw in Buzzards Bay. 
  • Suffolk is unbeaten, 2-0-0, against Mass. Maritime with Bill Maddock on the bench.
  • The blue-and-gold has never given up a goal to MMA with Maddock on the sidelines.

Suffolk men's soccer's Francisco Valck earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week thanks to his contribution to the Rams' 1-1-0 week, the league office announced.
