BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer will be led by a foursome of upperclassmen will take on the leadership role as captains this season with seniors Jordan Casey and Alex Desaulnier and juniors Jarrett Davis and Jackson Hines sharing the post.
Casey and Davis begin their second season as captains, while Desaulnier and Hines earned the "C" status for the first time in their careers.
Since putting on the Suffolk jersey three years ago Casey has been a constant in the Rams lineup and looks to continue that trend for his final go in 2018. The two-time all-league selection has 34 points on his stat line off 11 goals and 12 handouts and is coming off a three-goal, three-assist, season.
Davis anchored the Rams offense in his inaugural season in blue-and-gold in 2016 en route to being named GNAC Rookie of the Year. That season he also garnered all-conference third-team accolades, but has since been sidelined due to injury. Despite his absence on the field, Davis continues to show leadership qualities for the Suffolk program on the sideline, in the classroom and community.
Desaulnier transferred from Suffolk's GNAC counterpart Emmanuel last season and became an immediate contributor. In 12 starts and 15 appearances, the forward chipped in a pair of goals to Suffolk's offense that netted 38 a year ago. Desaulnier's on-field, veteran experience will aid in the Rams hunt for their second GNAC title and first since 2010.
With two captains on the offensive end and Davis set maintain moral on the bench, Hines will anchor the quartet in the backfield. He quickly became the cornerstone of the Rams defensive unit, starting all of Suffolk's 35 games in the backfield over the past two seasons. In 2017, he chipped into the offensive as well, with a game-winning header with 1:08 remaining in regulation versus Lasell Oct. 17.
Suffolk lifts its lid on the season at Mass. Maritime this Saturday, Sept. 1. First kick between the Rams and Buccaneers is scheduled for noon.
