Men’s Soccer Blanks Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – Seven different Rams recorded at least one point including a hat trick from Simon Velez Angel as Suffolk men's soccer shutout Rivier, 7-0, at Raiders Field Wednesday night in GNAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENDED
Suffolk exploded for four goals in the opening 45 minutes back by Jordan Casey. The junior captain netted a pair of markers; two minutes apart including a penalty kick to give the Rams the lead for good. Sal Perrotto gets credit for the game-winning goal as the freshman scored an unassisted tally in the 22nd minute.

Velez Angel completed the hat trick with two late strikes over the final 15 minutes to highlight the night for the Rams. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Jon Brodeur stopped both shots he faced on net for the clean sheet.
  • Collin Deyarmin made 10 saves as he faced 17 attempts. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk held an edge in every category; shots (23-5) shots on goal (17-2) and corner kicks (9-0).
  • Seven different Rams produced a point.
  • Veleze Angel led the way with three goals, while Casey had a pair and Perrotto and Jason Castro each struck once.
  • Casto finished the night with three points dishing out an assist to go along with his goal.
  • Felipre Ucros set up two shots with James Fisher and Christian Restrepo also getting on the scoresheet with one assist each. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Since 2002, Suffolk is 10-6-0 versus Rivier.
  • The Rams blanked the Raiders for the eighth time in the all-time series, moving to 6-2 in cleansheets against Rivier.
  • Suffolk's seven-goal victory marks the largest win for the blue-and-gold since the Rams defeated the Raiders, 9-0, Oct. 20, 2012.  
  • Velez Angel's hat trick marks a career-high goals for the sophomore as he became the second Ram to score three goals in one game this season with Restrepo accomplishing the feat in a 5-2 win at Emerson Sept. 6.
  • Castro recorded his first point as a Suffolk Ram, notching one goal and one assist.
  • Ucros notched a career-best two assists to match his career-high in points (2), which he achieved for the fourth time this year.
  • Casey registered a multi-goal game for the first time in 2017 and second time in his career with this two goal-effort matching both career bets in goals (2) and points (4) for the junior.

COMING UP
Suffolk is back in Eastie Saturday, Oct. 14 for the third annual Rams Fan Fest. Festivities begin at 12:30 p.m. with a tailgate with the women's soccer game versus Rivier opening the action on James A. Sartori Stadium's turf at 1 p.m. and the men's squad entertaining Norwich at 4 p.m. to close out the day. Prior to game time, the Rams' will honor the playing careers of its two graduating players, Mike Luntadila and Ankit Shrestha.
