BOSTON – Brett Mattos netted four goals in the second stanza to push Saint Joseph's (Maine) past the Suffolk men's soccer team Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Monks took a 1-0 lead into the second set of 45 minutes and Mattos turned on the engine from there. He netted a natural hat trick and added a fourth goal for good measure to secure the victory for SJC. 

GOALS

• After Suffolk was whistled for a foul, Jackson Taylor sent a rocket free kick in front of Suffolk's net. Mitchell Duncan jumped above the cluster and used his head to put the first goal of the day away just six minutes into the action.
• Taylor set up the Monks second strike of the afternoon on a throw in. The sophomore defenseman lofted a throw in front of the Rams' goal where Mattos jumped above the crowd and connected to the left of the netting to push SJC's lead to two goals just eight minutes the second stanza.
• With under five minutes remaining, Keene Welzel crossed to Mattos, who snuck the rock past Kyle Van Cleef to push the deficit to three in favor of St. Joe's
• A minute later seconds later, Mattos completed the natural hat trick. The junior forward received the set up once again from Welzel. History nearly repeated itself as Welzel sent the cross to Mattos, but this time Mattos used his head to put the ball away.
• Mattos continued to rack up the point as his 10th goal of the year went to the back of the net unassisted. He pulled Van Cleef out of the net and as Suffolk's goalie went down, he took advantage to push the Monks advantage to 5-0. 

KEEPING UP THE KEEPERS

• Van Cleef faced the majority of the action. The junior made 14 saves in the setback.
• Mullen stopped two shots in the victory, keeping his goals against average at zero on the year. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• The Monks held advantages in every category; shots (26-3), shots on goal (19-2) and corners (8-0). 

NOTEWORTHY

• Van Cleef's 14 saves mark a career-high.
