Men’s Soccer Predicted Fourth in Preseason GNAC Coaches Poll

BOSTON – The Suffolk men's soccer team has been slotted to finish fourth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) preseason coaches' poll, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

With 86 points the Rams finished in the top four, the highest prediction for the blue-and-gold since 2011 when Suffolk came off its 2010 conference crown and was elected to finish second. Reigning conference champion St. Joseph's (Maine) is selected to repeat as the Monks picked up 10 first-place votes for 199 points. Two points separate the second and third place projections with Norwich earning one first-place nod for 105 points and the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales rounding out the top three with 103 points.

Suffolk won the most conference contests since joining the GNAC contingent in 1999 with a 6-3 league ledger a year ago. The Rams are coming off their ninth conference postseason tournament appearance in the last 10 seasons and welcomes back numerous experienced players including Jarrett Davis, the 2016 GNAC Rookie of the Year and a third-team all-conference selection, and All-GNAC honorees, Jordan Casey (second team), and Christian Restrepo (third team).

For the third straight season, the Rams will open the curtain of its 2017 campaign on the turf of James A. Sartori Stadium's Field at East Boston Memorial Park when Suffolk entertains Mass. Maritime Saturday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m.
