Guilen Lifts Men’s Soccer to Victory at Rivier, 2-1

NASHUA, N.H. – With the GNAC match tied at 1-1 and 1:06 remaining in regulation, Jose Guilen netted the game-winner to lift the Suffolk men's soccer team over Rivier, 2-1, at Raider Field.

Guilen helped the Rams to its first victory of the season as they improved to 1-12-1 overall and 1-5-1 against GNAC competition, while Rivier fell to 1-11-0 and 0-7 in conference play.

The Raiders took a 1-0 first-half lead thanks to Alex Armstrong. The junior shot from just outside the six-yard box and was able to sneak past Nicholas Chamma. Armstrong received a perfect volley from his classmate Michael Russo and buried it for his second goal of the season.

Out of the locker rooms, the momentum began to shift in favor of the Rams. Freshman Mike Luntadila took a feed from fellow rookie Jordan Casey and tucked the rock into the near side upper corner to even the match at the 55th minute.

Over the course of the second stanza that teams exchanged changes until a late Rivier msicus step up a Rams corner opportunity with 1:20 left on the clock in regulation. Casey took the corner and lifted the ball to the near side post where it found Guilen. The junior redirected the ball and squeezed it past Gary Archambault to post the game winner, his first goal of the season.

Chamma stopped five of six shots for his first victory of 2015, while Archambualt made 10 saves on the evening.

Suffolk will host Springfield Monday night in its home finale at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.
