The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team defeated Johnson & Wales University 2-0 on Saturday evening at Dilboy Stadium in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Junior Alberto Bittan (Caracas, Venezuela) scored a pair of second half goals to lead Suffolk offensively as they now have won three of their last four contests to improve to a 3-5 overall record on the season.
It was a slow first half as the Wildcats held a slight edge in shots 11-7 as both teams combined to put just three shots on net.
Bittan would strike for the game's first goal as he managed to elude his way past the Wildcats' defense and come in all alone for a breakaway for what would turn out to be the game winner.
The junior striker would added his team leading fifth goal of the season and fourth in two games in the eighty-third minute as he once again managed to find himself free behind the defense and made a shifty move for the two goal lead.
Johnson & Wales had their best scoring opportunity of the evening come early in the twenty-fifth minute of the contest as senior Ray Durski (Monroe, N.J.) had a wide open look in front of the net but his shot hit the top corner of the cross bar and stayed out of the net.
The Wildcats finished the night with a slight edge in shots at 17-13 in the game.
Senior Ryan Dzierzawski (Oakland, Mich.) stopped four of the six shots he faced on the evening.
Junior Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janero, Brazil) needed to make just four saves to post his first shutout of the season.
The loss drops Johnson & Wales to a 5-3-1 overall mark on the year and 2-1 record in GNAC play. The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they host Springfield College in non-league action beginning at 4:00pm.
The win moves Suffolk to a 3-5 mark on the year and was their first in three GNAC contests this season. Suffolk will be idle for the week until they travel to Saint Joseph's College on Saturday for a 1:00pm matchup with the Monks.
