Men's Soccer Face Setback Against Mount Ida

The Mount Ida College Mustangs scored a pair of unanswered goals in the second half to top the Suffolk University Men's Soccer team in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday afternoon.

Senior Steve McDonald (Medford, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the seventy-sixth minute as the Mustangs improve to a 7-5-2 record and 4-2-1 mark in GNAC play on the season.

McDonald's chip shot from twenty five yards out bounced up and over Suffolk sophomore goaltender Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janero, Brazil) for the game deciding goal. The strike was McDonald's second of the season, as both of his tallies have been game winners.

Suffolk opened the scoring in the twenty-ninth minute of the contest a junior Djibril Niang (Dakar, Senegal) netted his third goal of the season. Niang headed in a ball that was started off a free kick by senior Jeff Williams (Geneva, Ill.).

In the fifty-fourth minute of the contest the Mustangs would even things up as senior Tim Gil (Lowell, Mass.) sent a cross pass in front of the net that found sophomore James Ames (West Hartford, Conn.) to even things up.

Mount Ida held a slight edge in shots during the contest at a 15-13 margin.

Junior goalkeeper Mat Pils (Monroe, Conn.) made seven saves in net for the Mustangs. Chamma stopped six of the eight shots he faced.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action later in the week. Mount Ida will travel to Saint Joseph's College on Thursday afternoon, while Suffolk will head to Emmanuel College on Wednesday.
