Lasell Tops Suffolk 3-1 in GNAC Action

The Lasell College men's soccer team defeated visiting Suffolk University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon on newly renovated Taylor Field. Lasell improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference while Suffolk slipped to 2-6 for the year and 1-2 in GNAC play.

Jose Cabrera (Queretaro, Mexico) tallied a goal and an assist for Lasell, who also saw Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.) and Cedric Dybaud (Quincy, Mass.) add their names to the scoring ledger for the home side. Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) netted the Suffolk goal on an assist from Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Venezuela). Nicholas Chamma (Rio De Janiero, Brazil) made six saves for the Rams while taking the loss in goal, while Lasell's Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) stopped four shots to collect his seventh victory on the season.

Lasell opened the match in strong fashion, opening the scoring in the 25th minute when Mike Skelton slotted home off of a tidy ball from Servi Barrientos (Providence, R.I.) to take a 1-0 lead. The Lasers struck again almost immediately when a feed from Eddie Roman (Revere, Mass.) sprung Jose Cabrera setting up his easy finish into the side netting to push the hosts' edge to 2-0.

Suffolk pulled a goal back in the 60th minute when Alberto Benhamu played Andres Cohen in on the Lasers keeper Colmenares and Cohen calmly finished to cut the hosts lead to 2-1. Suffolk continued pushing, committing numbers forward and seeing a couple of quality chances thwarted by the Lasell defense. The Lasers put the match away for good when Cabrera laid a ball off to Dybaud which the senior buried into the netting in the 89th minute to make it 3-1 and secure the victory for Lasell.

Suffolk will return to action on Wednesday October 2nd when they visit Regis College for a 7:00 p.m. contest, while Lasell will be back on their home field on Tuesday October 1st for a 4:00 p.m. match against Gordon College.
