Junior Tyler Parmelee (Colchester, Conn.) recorded a goal and assist, while sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janero, Brazil) made 10 saves as the Suffolk University Men's Soccer team defeated the Eastern Nazarene College Lions, 3-0 in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
Senior Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) netted his team leading fourth goal of the season twelve minutes into the contest. Cohen's shot came off a corner kick by Parmelee as Suffolk opened the scoring in the first half.
Junior Djibril Niang (Dakar, Senegal) scored the game's second goal as his header gave the Rams a 2-0 edge as Suffolk scored at the twelve minute mark of the second half. Niang headed in a cross pass by senior Jeff Williams (Geneva, Ill.).
Parmelee tabbed his first goal of the season with three minutes remaining in regulation as he took a feed deep in the Lions's defensive zone from freshman Aaron Haggas (London, England) and was able to sneak through a pair of defenders for the strike.
Chamma was strong in net as the Lions were able to pressure the Suffolk defense for most of the evening. Chamma stopped all 10 shots he faced on the evening, including 11 in the second half.
Junior Scott Hansen (Middletown Spring, Vt.) had a strong game offensively for the Lions as he put off five shots, but was unable to beat Chamma. The Lions recorded 17 shots in the contest with freshman Jacob Mason (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Jared Corbin (Fallston, Md.) each putting out two shots on goal.
The win marks consecutive victories for Suffolk as they improve to a 2-5 overall mark on the season. The loss drops the Lions to a 1-7 record.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in their respective conferences. Eastern Nazarene will travel to Gordon College for a 12:30pm match, while Suffolk heads to Lasell for a 1:00pm game with the Lasers.
