Men's Soccer Drop Double Overtime Thriller to Lesley 2-1

The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team (1-4 overall) lost in heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime defeat at the hands of the Lesley University Lynx (4-1 overall) on Monday evening.

Senior Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) scored his second goal in as many games in the opening minutes of the contest and freshman goalkeeper James Potter (North Kingston, R.I.) made a season-high nine saves but the Rams offense was once again held at bay as Suffolk loses their fourth game in five contests to start 2011.

Ahmed Abubakar (Springfield, Va.) put home the game winning goal with eight second remaining in the double overtime period for the Lynx fourth win of the season. Abubakar picked up a deflected pass in front of the Rams goal and rifled his kick over the head of Potter for his first goal of the season.

Lloyd gave the Rams the 1-0 advantage in the game's third minute as he was set up at center by freshman Babacar Sembene (Dakar, Senegal), scoring his fourth goal of the season.

The Rams would hold the one goal edge for nearly 61 minutes before Joe Petit (Salem, Mass.) took a cross-pass from Christian Domingo (Granada Hills, Calif.) and flicked his shot home for the score.

Lesley controlled much of the pace offensively as they held a 23-12 advantage in shots in the contest, including a 3-1 edge in the extra frames.

Suffolk will be back in action on Wednesday evening as they host Salve Regina University at Dilboy Stadium beginning at 7:00pm.
