Somerville, MA --The UMass-Boston Beacons (1-0 overall) opened their 2011 season with a 6-2 victory over the Suffolk University Rams on a rainy Wednesday evening at Dilboy Stadium as Stephanos Galouzis notted a hat trick to start the year.

Galouzis opened the scoring in the game's 29th minute to put the Beacons ahead by a goal. Nearly three minutes later Galouzis would set up Reyn Johnson as the Beacons built their lead by a pair. Dan Purchai would extend the UMass-Boston lead to three in the game's 37th minute as he shot deflected off of a Suffolk defender and rolled by Rams freshman goalkeeper James Potter (North Kingston, R.I.).

Galouzis would come out quick after the intermission scoring his second goal of the game two minutes into the second half as he took a pass from Victor Rosario to pad the lead by four goals.

In the game's 61st minute Galouzis would complete the hat trick as he took a pass from Victor Hugo Costa across the Suffolk goal line to put the Beacons up by five.

Suffolk would finally get on the board scoring a pair of goals in a four minute span. The first came off the head of freshman Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela), who pushed a header off a corner kick by Michael Missouri (Moss, Norway) by Beacons' goal Brycen Dowd. Missouri would score his second goal of the season as he picked up a loose ball in front of the Beacons' net to close the gap to 5-2.

With thirteen minutes remaining Kevin Jago sealed the victory for the Beacons as he converted on a pass from Purchai.

Dowd only needed to make three saves in the contest as the Beacons controlled much of the pace offensively outshooting the Rams, 23-10 in the game.

Potter made seven saves in the losing effort for the Rams.

Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday as they open the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a rematch from last year's conference championship as they host Albertus Magnus College at 3:30pm.
