Celia Scores Four Goals In Men's Soccer Win

Nick Celia (Hanson, MA) led the Suffolk University men's soccer team (3-3 GNAC, 4-7 overall) to a 4-1 win over Rivier College (0-5 GNAC, 0-13 overall) with four goals in 24 minutes at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Massachusetts, Wednesday.

Celia scored all of his goals in the second half after eight offside calls against the Rams led to a 0-0 tie at halftime. Celia finally broke the scoreless tie in the 62nd minute thanks to an assist from senior defender Eric Zettervall (Colchester, CT). Zettervall began the play by clearing the ball out of the Suffolk zone. Celia was able to out run the River defense and fake out Rivier goalkeeper John Jarvis to make it a 1-0 game.

Celia made it a 2-0 game six minutes later when a Clayton Plumer (Cranston, RI) free kick deflected off a Rivier defender in front of the net. Luckily for the Rams, Celia was there to rip it by Jarvis once again.

After a Chris Nugent blast from 20 yards out got the Raiders to 2-1 with 17 minutes remaining, Celia quieted the Rivier rally with his third goal of the contest in the 75th minute. Chad Boucher (Saco, ME) and Cristian Palacios (Lexington, MA) each had assists on the play.

Celia ended his big night with an unassisted goal in the 86th minute to make it a 4-1 final.

The Rams finished the game out shooting the Raiders 19-9 and 14-5 in the second half. Alex Capousis (Annapolis, MD) had three saves in the win. Jarvis had five saves for Rivier.

The Rams travel to Maine to take on St. Joseph's Sunday at 3pm.
