Men’s Hockey Handles Wentworth, 5-1

EVERETT, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey saw five unanswered goals scored five unanswered goals, four on the power play, to take down Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Wentworth Saturday at Allied Veterans Memorial Skating Rink. All five Rams goals were scored off different sticks to help sweep the Leopards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wentworth found its way on the scoreboard first as Nick Cullinan potted the puck with help from, George Weiner and Mitch McGinn 4:28 in the action. 

The Rams roared ahead from there with three unanswered, all on the power play. Cole ScottJoe O'Brien and Devin Lowe all were responsible FOR the goals that spanned 10 minutes to send Suffolk into the first intermission with a 3-1 advantage.  

Suffolk extended the margin to 4-1 4:28 into in the second stanza when Scott McManus scored with help from Ralph Berry and Thomas Dempsey.

Ryan Webb got in on the scoring with a power play marker just under three minutes out of the second intermission to pad the distance to four, 5-1. 

CJ Hapward took care of business the rest of the way with six stops over the final period, all of which came after Webb's goal, to secure the victory and CCC home-and-home series sweep for Suffolk. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Hapward made 27 saves in the victory. 
  • Jack McGovern logged 31 stops in the setback.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Lowe and Scott finished with two points on one goal and one assist apiece. 
  • Dempsey had two points as well with a pair of helpers. 
  • O'Brien, Webb and McManus each scored once for Suffolk. 
  • Tyler BorysJosh MilsoNick Liotino, Jake Grace and Berry all dished out one assist. 
  • Suffolk outshot Wentworth, 36-28. 
  • The Rams won the face off battle, 38-33. 
  • Suffolk went 4-for-8 on the power play and successfully skated off all three penalties. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk has taken down Wentworth in back-to-back meetings. 
  • Suffolk moved to 4-1-0 versus WIT under Shawn McEachern's guidance. 
  • The blue-and-gold is now 8-1-1 in the last nine meetings with Wentworth, all of which have come in CCC play. 
  • Overall, Suffolk is 19-25-1 versus Wentworth. 
  • As the away team, the Rams are now 9-13-0 against WIT. 
  • The five goals scored against Wentworth is the most for Suffolk in the series with McEachern on the bench. 
  • The Rams have outscored Leopards 22-7 through the last seven meetings. 
  • The four power play goals scored by Suffolk are the most since potting eight in an 8-4 win over Salve Regina, Nov. 18, 2010.
  • Lowe had his third multi-point game of the campaign.

Suffolk will face Endicott in a home-and-home series next weekend. The Rams travel to Beverly, Massachusetts, Friday, Jan. 26 for a 7:00 p.m. match before hosting the Gulls Saturday, Jan. 27 at 6:00 p.m.
