Salve Regina Edges Men’s Hockey, 4-3

MIDDLETOWN, R.I.  – Suffolk men's hockey could not complete the comeback as Salve Regina snuck past the Rams, 4-3, Saturday night at St. George's Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Salve Regina put away two answered goals scattered over the first and second period to put the Rams in a two-goal hole. The Rams rallied back with two straight strikes of their own to level the playing field as the game transitioned into the third.  

Nick Lachaine put away the blue-and-gold's first marker of the night at the 9:07 minute mark of the middle period with help from Devin Lowe and Daniil Ovchinnikov. Nearly 10 minutes later Lowe put away the game-tying puck on the power play with assists from Lachaine and Joe Feeney.

The Seahawks managed to go ahead 4:53 out of the second intermission and padded the margin to a pair 10 minutes later. Suffolk got back on goal with 1:17 left as Feeney found the back of the net 18:43 with a short-handed marker that was set-up by Billy Roche.  

After the face-off, Chris Glionna pulled Cal Wilcox from between the pipes to give Suffolk an extra boost with an additional skater, however the Rams were still on the penalty kill for the next 44 seconds and even when that expired they were unable to get a shot off.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Wilcox notched 22 saves in the setback. 
  • Nicholas Latinovich had 18 stops in the victory.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Three different Suffolk skaters finished with two points on identical stat lines with one goal and one assist in Feeney, Lachaine and Lowe. 
  • Feeney logged a short-handed strike, while Lowe's goal was on the man-up opportunity. 
  • Ovchinnikov and Roche both had one assist to their credit. 
  • Salve Regina outshot Suffolk, 26-21. 
  • The Seahawks won the face-off battle as well, 42-26. 
  • Both teams took advantage of a power play. Suffolk went 1-for-5, while Salve Regina went 1-for-6. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk scored its third short-handed goal of the year. 
  • Feeney put away his first collegiate short-handed goal. 
  • Feeney had his first multi-point game of his collegiate career. 
  • Lachaine matched a personal-best two points with his first multi-point game of the season. 
  • Lowe had his fifth two-point game of the campaign.
