HOW IT HAPPENED
Joseph Mortillaro quickly made it a 1-0 Suffolk score. From the left side of the blue line Miller Rubin's crossing pass found Mortillaro, who flipped the puck over Bailey MacBurnie's shoulder to open the score 2:43 into the action.

The Rams had another chance as they went on the power play, but the Beacons turned each of their attempts down, even the pair that clipped the pipes.

Suffolk then went on the defense, with three penalties to kill off, including a 13-second 5-on-3 opportunity for UMass. The blue-and-gold backed up Cal Wilcox, who finished the first 10 minutes with 11 stops, to keep the Beacons scoreless.

Boston burst out of the first intermission with three unanswered goals, including a shorthanded strike, over 6:22 to shift momentum in its favor, 3-1, with seven minutes to play in the middle period.

On the Rams' fifth power play of the night, they chipped the gap down to one. Rubin fired a shot from the right blue line. MacBurnie made the save with his chest, but Joe Feeney was there to poke the piece into the net at the 17:47 minute mark.

The Beacons restored the two-goal distance 49 seconds later when Ethan Nitkin scored his second of the day to send Suffolk into the locker down, 4-2.

Suffolk saw a pair of man-up chances within the first five minutes out of the locker room, but could not take advantage of either. From there, a back-and-forth battle ensued with neither team finding the edge.

As time winded down, Chris Glionna pulled Wilcox from between the pipes. The Rams could not capitalize with the extra skater though and the Beacons put away an empty netter for the final 5-2 margin.
