Men’s Hockey to Host Military Appreciation Night Saturday

BOSTON – The Suffolk men's hockey team will conclude its home slate in stand-up fashion Saturday, Feb. 2 as the Rams host Castleton in a Military Appreciation Night contest at 7 p.m. at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink in Charlestown.

The Rams will wear camouflage jerseys to honor those who have and are currently serving to protect this country.

A ceremonial puck drop featuring Suffolk baseball's own Logan Heckman, an infantry rifleman, and Staff Sergeant Hammond, will precede the Rams' regular-season home finale against the Spartans.

Heckman served in the Marines for four years where he was stationed across the country, Japan and South Korea, prior to enrolling Suffolk University and joining the Mutts in the Fall of 2017.

Hammond, the brother-in-law of Suffolk's men's hockey senior Tommy Bishop, has seven years of service to his credit as an AH-64D attack helicopter repairer and is currently assigned to D Co. 1-10 ARB in Fort Drum, New York. Hammond has picked up numerous awards and decorations throughout his time including a pair of Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Army Overseas Service Medal.
