Men’s Hockey Slips to No. 14/15 Babson

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. – No. 14/15 Babson used a pair of third period goals to setback Suffolk men's hockey, 2-1, Friday night in New England Hockey Conference action at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | No. 14/15 Babson 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-4-0, 0-3-0 NEHC) | No. 14/15 Babson (5-0-1, 4-0-1 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a scoreless and penalty absent first period Suffolk controlled the puck and saw its best scoring chance just under the 15-minute mark. On a two-on-one breakaway Jack Kelly slipped the puck ahead to Brian Brooks and received the give-and-go pass back when he was slicing to the net. Kelly made a move from the right to the left and sent a backhanded wrist shot on target. The puck was nearly over the line when Babson's Bryan Botcher's glove scooped up the puck to keep zeros on the scoreboard.

Suffolk's momentum carried into the second period and the Rams wasted little time to gain a one-goal edge. In a cluster in front of the Beavers' net Joe Feeney picked up the pieces of a rebound to give the blue-and-gold a 1-0 lead just 1:46 into the period. Sean Montgomery assisted on the score.

Similar to the Rams' first opportunity of the day in the first, Babson had a chance with under five to go in the second. Mike Egan quickly put back Nick Rosa's block shot, Michael Levine turned aside Egan's first attempt and the net was knocked off on the second allowing the Rams' to remain ahead by one.

The Beavers' persistence paid off and the score evened out at the 8:03 mark of the third period. Matt Wiesner snuck his own rebound past Levine to lock the score at 1-all with just under 12 minutes left in regulation. Zach Richterman had a hand in the game-tying goal.

As time dwindle and overtime loomed, Babson converted transition. John Corrigan scored a one-timer, five-hole on a feed from Rosa to give the Beavers their first edge of the day, 2-1.

Suffolk had a chance to even the field again with 1:06 to go as Tommy Munichielo was whistled for elbowing. Chris Glionna pulled Levine to give the Rams' a two-man advantage, but the Beavers' backed Botcher to secure the 2-1 victory for the visitors.
