Men’s Hockey Shutout in NEHC Opener at NEC, 4-0

HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College powered past Suffolk men's hockey, 4-0, in the Rams' New England Hockey Conference opener at Lee Clemente Arena Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pilgrims potted two first period goals to build an early two-goal edge. Ryan Walsh struck first at the 8:07 minute mark with help from Connor Fries and Nikita Pintusov. Then, 7:20 later, Fries scored his own goal thanks to assists from Pintusov and Fornaris to gain the 2-0 lead for the hosts.  

Suffolk had to play catch-up from there and another NEC goal in the opening 1:15 of second stanza against put the Rams in a three-goal hole.  

The Rams continued to grind, but Anthony Pupplo had other things in mind. The Pilgrims netminder turned aside all of Suffolk's 29 attempts and NEC scored a fourth goal with 2:44 remaining in regulation for the final 4-0 margin.   

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Michael Levine picked up 35 saves in his first setback of the season. 
  • Pupplo registered 29 stops in the victory.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • NEC outshot Suffolk, 39-29, and won the battle inside the face-off circle, 33-28.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk opened NEHC action.
