Men’s Hockey Sees Six Garner AHCA All-America Scholar Honors

BOSTON – For the second straight season, the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) has recognized varsity ice hockey players for their success in the classroom as "Krampade All-American Scholars" and six members of the Suffolk men's hockey team earned the distinction, the association announced Thursday afternoon.

Overall 821 names across Division II-III earned the honor, joining 489 of their Division I counterparts for a total of 1,310 student-athlete honors in the second-year of the program, increasing from the program's inaugural 1,261 honorees. The Commonwealth Coast Conference saw 81 student-athletes earn the distinction with Suffolk owning six of those names; Nick Abbene, Shayne Bailey, Matt Bucher, Connor Henry, Sean Henry and Jared McCracken. Bailey and the Henry brothers took home the accolade for the second time in their careers, while Bucher and McCracken picked up the feat for the first time.

To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have attained at least a 3.6 grade point average over the 2017-18 academic year and participated in 40 percent of their respective contests. For a complete list of honorees, click here.
