Men’s Hockey Places 13 on Academic All-CCC Team

BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey saw 13 of its student-athletes be recognized for their efforts inside the classroom with a spot on the 2018 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Spring All-Academic Team, the league office unveiled Monday afternoon.

The academic all-conference honor rewards varsity student-athletes who attain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher in their second year of competition (sophomore) or above. The Spring CCC All-Academic Team encompasses student-athletes who participated in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, men's hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's tennis and softball. There are 579 student-athletes recognizes on this year's list, which is the most ever on any of the conference's all-academic squads, topping last year's spring total of 573.

Overall, men's hockey had the most honorees of CCC's sports with 108 student-athletes earning the distinction. The Rams' 13 nods, which were the most among affiliate members, rank the fourth-most of the 10-team men's hockey field behind Endicott (17), Curry (14) and Nichols (14).

Suffolk's honorees include seniors Shayne Bailey and Jack Jenkins, juniors Tommy Bishop, Mikhail Bryan, Brendan Heinze, Connor Henry, Sean Henry, Michael Levine and sophomores Nick Abbene, Bryan Etter, Brian Patterson and Will Ribas

As a team, Chris Glionna's Rams put together a 3.18 GPA for the 2018 Spring semester and a 3.30 overall average in the classroom. The 31-man roster contributed to the one of best academic showings by the department as the 18 varsity sports put together a 3.358 combined GPA for 2017-18. Bailey was one of the main ingredients to this success as the senior had a perfect showing in his studies this year as just one of two student-athletes to put together unblemished 4.0 GPAs in both the fall and spring.
