Men’s Hockey Lifts Lid on Home and CCC Campaign Thursday vs. Becker

BOSTON – Thursday, Nov. 3 will be a historic day for Suffolk men's hockey as the Rams raise the curtain on its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) era in their home opener versus Becker. Puck drop of Suffolk's first-ever CCC contest is slated for 7 p.m. at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink in Charlestown.

THE FIRST LINE

• Last weekend, Suffolk welcomed the new year with a thrilling come-from-behind 5-4 victory at Assumption. With the win, the Rams moved to 7-10-1 in season openers, including a 2-4 mark on the road, dating back to the 1999-2000 season.
• Suffolk met Assumption in its season opener for the seventh straight season with the Rams coming out on the winning side for six consecutive campaigns. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk men's hockey team found itself down 4-3 in the opening of the third period of its season opener, but the resilient Rams found their way back and checked a mark in the win column after Tommy Bishop scored two goals over a 53 seconds span to take down Assumption, 5-4, at Buffone Arena Oct. 29.

RUNDOWN ON THE RAMS
10 different Rams recorded a point in Suffolk's (1-0-0) season opener lead by a career performance from Tommy Bishop. The sophomore forward netted a career-best two goals and matched a career-high two assists to finish the first game of the season with the most points of his career, four. 

Mikhail Bryan and Nick Mosher also finished the night with multi-point efforts. The former had a hand in two goals, while the latter netted one tally and helped on another. Sean Henry and Justin Holliday round out the Rams' goals scorers, with LJ Fellows, Brendan Heinze, Simon Leahy, Danyil Medvedev and Luke Miller all recording an assist in game one. 

Michael Levine earned the nod against the Greyhounds. The sophomore netminder turned aside 38 attempts and gave up four goals in his first win of the season. 

FLYING WITH THE HAWKS
One day after Suffolk downed Assumption, 5-4, Becker took the ice against the Greyhounds and fell, 4-2. 

Just a handful of Hawks notched a point in the season opener led by Connor Allison's two off one score and one handout. Connor Merrick also found the back of the netting with Nicholas McKee and Dylan Durham dishing out one assist apiece. 

Tyler Stepke manned the pipes for Becker. The senior goalie allowed faced 35 shots, saving 31 and letting in four. 

THE SERIES
The Suffolk, Becker series dates back to the 2007-08 season with the Rams leading the all-time series 8-8-2, including a 5-2-1 ledger at home. Four meetings have needed extra time to decide a victor with the Rams owning two victories and the other pair of games ending in a tie. Through 12 meetings, each team has netted 49 goals.

CCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tommy Bishop of the Suffolk men's hockey team will go down in history as the first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week as the sophomore grabbed the initial award of the inaugural season after a career opening night, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

A NEW ERA
Suffolk will begin a new era of men's ice hockey this season as the Rams will compete in the inaugural Commonwealth Coast Conference. Nine institutions join the Rams  in the first-ever CCC men's hockey season in Becker, Curry, Endicott, Johnson & Wales Nichols, Salve Regina, University of New England, Wentworth, Western New England.

Suffolk heads back out on the road for a Saturday, Nov. 5 showdown at Salve Regina. The conference contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Portsmouth Abbey.
