Holliday Sends Hockey Past WNE, 4-2

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. -  Freshman Justin Holliday netted a pair of goals, while fellow freshman Nick Mosher added a marker and two assists to lead Suffolk to a 4-2 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Western New England Saturday evening at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

Mosher gave the host Rams (12-5-2, 7-2-2 ECAC Northeast) the early advantage just 50 seconds into the contest with his fourth tally of the season, but the visiting Golden Bears (1-15-3, 0-9-1 ECAC Northeast) evened matters at the 7:10 mark of the opening frame on freshman Tyler Hines' second collegiate goal.
Suffolk tallied twice in a 50 second span near the midway mark of the middle stanza to break the deadlock, as sophomore Jack Jenkins gave the hosts the lead for good at the 8:29 mark with his third goal of the season before Holliday scored the eventual game-winner to extend the Rams' edge to 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Western New England crept back to within one when on junior Josh Twietmeyer's third marker of the campaign 5:24 into the final period, but Holliday iced Suffolk's triumph with 1:15 remaining with his seventh tally of the year on a Mosher feed to close out the scoring.

Freshman Tommy Bishop joined Mosher with two assists in the win for the Rams, who moved into a tie for first place in the conference standings with Nichols by posting the victory.  Junior Stanton Turner and freshman Sean Henry also collected helpers for Suffolk, which has won four of its last five decisions dating back to January 16th.

Freshmen Joe Mazza and Connor Eckenrod collected assists in the setback for the Golden Bears, as senior Brandon Smolarek earned his 10th win of the season in goal with a 29-save effort for
Suffolk that featured 13 stops in the first period alone.  Sophomore Scott Brown made 34 stops on the night for Western New England (including 26 over the final 40 minutes of action), as the Rams outshot the Golden Bears by a 38-31 margin for the contest.
