Hockey Trio Sweeps ECAC Northeast Weekly Awards

BOSTON – Tommy Bishop, Justin Holiday and Brandon Smolarek of the Suffolk hockey team swept the ECAC Northeast weekly awards, the league announced today. The trio led the Rams to two wins last week, including a 5-2 triumph against Southern New Hampshire University and a 4-3 comeback, overtime win over conference foe Becker.

Holliday helped Suffolk two two wins this past week. After passing out two assists against SNHU, the freshman collected two more points in ECAC Northeast action. After helping on the Rams' second goal of the night, he put in the game-winner with 2:14 left in overtime to lift the blue-and-gold to victory. This is the first time in Holliday's career that he garnered player of the week accolades and the Stow, Ohio local's second weekly honor of his career as the freshman forward picked up rookie of the week nods Nov. 2.

Smolarek, who hails from Chesterfield, Michigan took home this week's ECAC Northeast Goaltender of the Week awards for his play against the Penmen and Hawks. In a midweek match against SNHU, he posted 19 saves, then followed up with 28 stops in the 4-3 overtime triumph versus Becker.

Bishop was named the best rookie over a seven day stretch, the first weekly honor of his collegiate career, after a four-point week. Against SNHU, the forward from Chelmsford, Massachusetts put in a goal and hand out an assist, before passing out two helpers, including one on Holliday's game-winner, to help seal the Rams win over Becker in the extra session.

Suffolk  steps out of league action to close out first semester play Saturday, Dec. 12 when the Rams welcome Franklin Pierce to Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial rink for a 7 p.m. showdown.
