Hockey Duo Secures ECAC Northeast Weekly Honors

BOSTON – After the Suffolk hockey team's 4-3 overtime season opening win over Assumption Saturday night, a pair of student-athlete earned ECAC Northeast weekly awards, the conference announced. Justin Selep was named ECAC Northeast Player of the Week and Justin Holliday was recognized as the league's Rookie of the Week. 

Selep helped get the Rams going Saturday night as he assisted on his linemate's Mike Cherpak's goal, Suffolk's first marker of the night. The junior from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ended the game the way he started, as he recorded his second point of the evening with the game-winner just 37 seconds into the extra session to send the Rams home with the win. 

Holliday, who calls Stow, Ohio home,  enjoyed an eventful collegiate debut Saturday night. The freshman forward scored once and dished out an assist to help Suffolk secure its fifth straight victory over Assumption. 

The award gives Selep his second ECAC honor since he arrived in Boston. The pair of accolades marks the first time that two players in blue-and-gold earned league weekly accolades together since Charlie McGinnins '14 and Brandon Smolarek picked up player and goalie honors, repsectively, Feburary 25, 2014.

The Rams return to the ice Wednesday night when they entertain Salve Regina in their ECAC Northeast opener at 7:40 p.m.
