Leahy, Jenkins Each Net A Pair of Goals in Hockey Win

Sophomore Simon Leahy (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Jack Jenkins (Billerica, Mass.) each netted a pair of power play goals to lift Suffolk to a 4-1 non-league college ice hockey victory over Franklin Pierce Saturday evening at Steriti Rink. 

Leahy staked the host Rams (9-5-1) to a 1-0 first period lead with an unassisted power play goal just 5:31 into the contest, but the visiting Ravens (3-11) evened matters 55 seconds into the middle stanza when junior Paddy Murphy (York, Maine) converted feeds from senior Brendan FitzPatrick (Winthrop, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor Fletcher (Leominster, Mass.).  Leahy gave Suffolk the lead for good just 13 seconds later with his second man-advantage marker of the night on an assist from senior Andrew Ball (Brick, N.J.), and Jenkins provided a pair of insurance tallies for the Rams in the final 20 minutes of action, extending the hosts' edge to 3-1 3:59 into the third period before scoring once again on the power play with 6:01 remaining to account for the final margin. 

Leahy collected an assist on Jenkins' second goal to finish with three points in the win for Suffolk, which also received a pair of assists from sophomore Stanton Turner (San Francisco, Calif.) and a single helper off the stick of sophomore Connor Lawrence (White Plains, N.Y.).  Junior Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) notched his eighth victory of the season by stopping 26 of 27 shots for the Rams, while freshman Etienne Roy (Saint-Henri, Que.) made 27 saves in the setback for Franklin Pierce as Suffolk outshot the Ravens by a 31-27 margin for the contest.  The hosts killed off all seven of the visitors' power play opportunities on the evening while converting on a season-high four of eight man-advantage chances of their own. 

Suffolk hosts Assumption in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Steriti Rink beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Franklin Pierce entertains Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference clash in Winchendon, Mass. that faces off at 7:30 p.m.
