Nichols Stops Suffolk in ECAC Northeast Action

Senior Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ont.) netted a pair of goals and two assists to lead Nichols to an 11-3 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Suffolk Wednesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

>The visiting Bison (4-11-3, 2-3 ECAC Northeast) raced out to a 4-0 first period advantage, including two markers off the stick of Ella that came 15 seconds apart just 4:54 into play, and scored on six of their first 11 shots on the evening to take a 6-0 edge just 21-plus minutes into the contest.  Nichols, which netted five power play tallies in the triumph, also received a pair of goals each from senior Andrew Letellier (Saco, Maine) and freshman Louie Educate (Chicago, Ill.), who each added assists to finish with a combined six points on the night.

>Senior Zach Hendrickson (Farmingdale, N.Y.) chipped in with a marker and three helpers in the win for the Bison, who also received four assists from junior Zach Kohn (Delafield, Wis.) and three helpers off the stick of sophomore Blake Bishop (Parker, Colo.) to go with a goal and assist each from junior Danny Grenier (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Chris Gularte (Salinas, Calif.).

>Sophomore Charlie McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) and freshmen Creg Cook (South Lancaster, Mass.) and Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) each netted second period markers in the setback for the host Rams (2-12, 0-5 ECAC Northeast), who also received a pair of assists off the stick of sophomore Andrew Flynn (Stamford, Conn.).

>Senior Jacob Rinn (Warwick, R.I.) picked up the win in goal for Nichols with a 15-save effort, while freshman Brett Roman (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) made 15 stops over the final 29-plus minutes in the setback for Suffolk, which also received a combined 11 stops from sophomore Cam Kelley (Brighton, Mass.) and freshman Scott Steele (Waterford, Conn.).  The Bison outshot the Rams by a 37-18 margin for the contest, including 28 shots over the final 40 minutes of play.
