BOSTON, Mass. -- Goals by junior Zach
Barron (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Matt
Robertson (Whitman, Mass.) that came 24 seconds apart
midway through the second period lifted Suffolk to a 4-2 ECAC
Northeast ice hockey victory over Becker Tuesday evening at Walter
Brown Arena.
The host Rams (7-9-2, 3-3-1 ECAC Northeast) jumped out to a 1-0
advantage 12 minutes into the contest on a goal by senior
Niles Moore (Columbus, Ohio), but the visiting
Hawks (8-8-1, 4-3 ECAC Northeast) evened matters 7:11 into the
second stanza on a goal off the stick of sophomore Max Keagle
(Elkhart, Ind.). Barron gave Suffolk the lead for good at the
13:07 mark of the middle period with a power play tally, and
Robertson's marker just 24 seconds later extended the hosts' edge
to 3-1 after 40 minutes of action. Freshman David Graham's
(Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) power play goal 32 seconds into the
final period sliced Becker's deficit in half, but freshman
Jason Molle (Stoneham, Mass.) iced the triumph for
the Rams with an empty-net shorthanded goal with 53 seconds
remaining to close out the scoring.
Moore finished with a goal and an assist in the victory for
Suffolk, which also received a pair of assists off the stick of
senior Pat Welch (Dorchester, Mass.) as well as
single helpers from senior Joe Drago (Waltham,
Mass.), junior Tom Coulstring (Whitman, Mass.),
sophomore J. Andrew Wein (Barnegat, N.J.) and
freshman Andrew Monesi (Simi Valley, Calif.).
Sophomore Patrick Bellew (Newington, Conn.) assisted on
Keagle's goal in the setback for Becker, which also received a
helper from freshman Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga,
Calif.) on Graham's tally.
Junior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) picked up
the win in goal for Suffolk with a 23-save effort, while sophomore
Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 17 stops in the setback for
Becker as the Hawks outshot the Rams by a 25-21 margin for the
contest.
