Men’s Golf to Play for NEIGA Championship this Weekend

BOSTON – Suffolk men's golf will make its annual trip to Brewster, Massachusetts, this weekend to battle for the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at the Captains Golf Course. Action commences Saturday, Oct. 14 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 15. Fans can follow the action live through results here.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's golf claimed 17th at the Bowdoin Invitational over Sept. 23-24 at the Brunswick Golf Club.

ABOUT THE NEIGA
The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. NEIGA is believed to be the largest gathering of collective players from all levels of NCAA competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout. There are currently 46 New England colleges and universities as members of the NEIGA.

THE COURSE
Two championship golf courses at one location line in the Captains Golf Course. Together, the par-72 Port Course and the par-72 Starboard Course deliver 36 holes.   

THE FIELD
Twenty-one schools including Suffolk will battle for regional glory and the NEIGA Title. The field features the Rams' Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterparts Endicott, Hartford, Nichols, Roger Williams, Wentworth, Western New England and the University of New England. Rounding out the competition is Babson, Bates, Eastern Connecticut State, Elms, Husson, Keene State, Middlebury, Salem State, Southern Maine, Springfield, St. Joseph's (Maine), Western Conn. and Worcester State.

SUFFOLK'S LINE-UP
The Rams are sending the following student-athletes to the Cape to vie for a regional crown, seniors Cameron SinopoliVijay Sakuru, juniors Jonathan Donovan and Jake Zirlin and sophomore Christopher Sinopoli.  

COACH'S QUOTE
"We've had strong practices the past week at Harmon Golf in Rockland and everyone is in good form going into this event," head coach Ken DiMaggio said. "Expectations are high and we are looking for a high finish."

RAPID REWIND
A year ago, Suffolk claimed ninth at the 87th NEIGA Championship. The Rams broke into the top 10 for the first time since 2019, when Suffolk finished sixth.  

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams conclude their fall slate when they compete for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Highfield Golf Club in Grafton, Massachusetts.
