Men’s Golf Finishes Third at CCC Championship

THOMPSON, Conn. – The Suffolk men's golf team shot its way to a third-place finish at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship with team score of 640 (+64) at the Raceway Golf Club Sunday. 

The Rams finished round one of the two-day affair at the bottom of the four-team field, which featured Endicott, Nichols and the University of New England, with a combined scorecard of 327. On the second day on the green, Suffolk stepped it up, outshot UNE, 313-319, to finish one stroke ahead of the Nor'Easters, 640-641, to claim third. Just 30 strokes separated Suffolk and CCC Champion Gulls, 610, who held a one stroke lead over runner-up Bison (611). 

On Saturday, Mauro Stanchieri shot a team-best 77 on the opening 18 holes to aid the squad's efforts.

Day two was highlighted by a pair of Rams, Stanchieri and Vijay Sakuru, both registering an individual score of 76. Stanchieri finished the weekend tied for fifth individually with his tally of 153, while Sakuru placed just outside the top-ten in 11th after shooting a 158. 

Cameron Sinopoli rallied to record a second-round score of 79 after carding an opening round 82 to finish with a score of 161, helping place a trio of Suffolk competitors in the top 15. 

Rounding out the field for the blue-and-gold was Jake Zirlin and Nicholas Kirby, who finished right after another in 18th and 19th with a 168 and 174, respectively. 

The conference championship completed Suffolk's 2021-22 slate.
