Golf Takes Fifth at Nighthawk Invitational

BOSTON – The Suffolk golf team opened its 2015 season at the Nighthawk Invitational hosted by Newbury College Wednesday. Facing a strong field of teams from across New England, the Rams finished in fifth place out of 11 teams after firing off a team score of 322.

The top spot on the leaderboard after an 18-hole day belonged to Tufts with 287 (+7) points, while Babson was just 10 points back to take second. Nichols and Wentworth finished with 303 points and 318 points, respectively, to sit just in front of the Rams.

Matt Rosenberg and Stephen Ferrante posted a round of 79 and finished at a plus-9 for the event. The score put the senior and first-year in a four-way tie for 19th on the individual side. Mark Fusco was one off the pace of this teammates Rosenberg and Ferrante with 80, putting himself in a tie for 24th overall.

Patrick Hambleton and Nick Cammarano rounded out the golfers in blue-and-gold as Hambleton tied for 34th with a score of 84 (+14), while Cammarano carded an 88 (+18) to finish tied for 42nd.

Suffolk is back in action Saturday, Sept. 26 for its first multi-day event of the season, the Blazers Invitational at the Elmcrest Country Club.
