Golf Places 3rd at Saints Invitational

Junior Jackson Davis (Spencer, Mass.) carded a 74 for medalist honors to lead the Worcester State University men's golf team to a team score of 318 to top the field at Emmanuel College's quad-match played at the par 70 Williams J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Wentworth Institute of Technology wasn't far off the pace with a team score of 326 to finish second while Suffolk University combined for a 338 for a third place finish. The host Saints rounded out the field with a 348.

Davis put together an impressive round, carding a 36 on the front side (+2) before finishing with a 38 on the back (+2). On his round, the junior recorded 11 pars and two birdies. Sophomore Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.) was the next low round for the Lancers with a 79 out of the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Steven Ferraro (Leicester, Mass.) fired an 82 while freshman Quinn Indio (Acushnet, Mass.) registered an 83 to round of the top four scores for Worcester State.

Finishing second, the Wentworth squad finished all within five strokes of each other with freshman Paul Arsenault (Middleton, Mass.) posting a team-best 80 with 40's on both the front and back side of the links. Seniors Brandon Goold (Foxboro, Mass.) and Pat Sullivan (Needham, Mass.) came into the clubhouse with a pair of 81's out of the No. 1 & 2 spots while junior Ian Therriault (Auburn, Maine) rounded out the keeper scores and an 84.

The Suffolk Rams returned to Franklin Park after carding a 331 just 10 days ago but were unable to improve with the team coming in third with a 338. Seniors Luke Ferrari (Milton, Mass.) and Tim Benedetto (Peabody, Mass.) posted 84's while senior Jack Davis (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Pat Hambleton (Methuen, Mass.) notched 85's.

EC senior Brett Burmann (Bridgewater, Conn.) matched Sharron of WSC for the second-low round of the afternoon with a 79. Burmann registered a 38 on the front side of the course before shooting a 41 on the back. His round included 10 pars Junior Curtis Fraser (Hopkinton, N.H.) was next in with a score of 88 followed by seniors John Butler (Biddeford, Maine) and Micahel Burgess (Milton, Mass.) who posted a 90 and 91. Junior Kyle Davis (Groveland, Mass.) shot a 92 to round of the field.

Emmanuel, Suffolk and Wentworth return to action this weekend when they head to Bernardston, Mass. for the ECAC Championships being played at the Crumpin-Fox Golf Club. Worcester State in now idle until the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at Ponkapoag Golf Course in Canton, Mass. the weekend of Oct. 18-19.
