Denis Tobin joined Jeff Juron’s staff as a graduate assistant in the Summer of 2019 and begins his third season with the Rams in 2021-22.

In addition to his responsibilities on Juron’s staff, Tobin worked in Suffolk’s Athletic Department as a graduated assistant, while working on his Master’s Degree in Administration of Higher Education, which he earned in December 2020.

Tobin traded his sneakers for a whistle as Juron gave him his first collegiate coaching job after competing on the hardwood for four years at Clark.

His first year on the bench was a leave it all the floor type action with the Rams competing in the GNAC one final time with the transition to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) on tap for 2020-21.

Suffolk did just that in a tightly contested league in 2019-20 that saw four teams land in a tie for fourth place with a 6-5 ledger. After tiebreakers tabulations, the blue-and-gold would go into its final quest for GNAC glory as the seventh seed. In a back-and-forth battle at second seed Albertus Magnus, the senior class, Juron’s first true recruiting class of Thomas DuffyJonathan EngGeorge Grillakis, and Cameron Powers, the Rams were two possessions away from the semis. The Falcons took care of business at the free throw line to seal Suffolk’s fate. The 14-12 squad was anchored by All-GNAC Third-Team honoree Duffy.

The 2020-21 season, Tobin's second on Juron's staff, was abbreviated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Suffolk had the chance to take the hardwood in eight contests and managed to put together a 6-2 mark in those outings. That record is the best for the blue-and-gold through eight games since the 1977-78 campaign.

As a player at Clark, Tobin appeared in 38 games from 2015-19 with the Cougars, however, it was his leadership style off the court that helped the shooting guard have a standout career.  In addition to serving as captain for the 2018-19 campaign, he assisted the coaching staff with scouting reports, film breakdowns and tours. Additionally, he encompassed the definition of a student-athlete to be committed to his team, while being connected to his studies in political science to be recognized with the 2019 NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.

Tobin’s coaching career began with the Rising Star Basketball School where he worked at various levels as a trainer and coach. There he developed a knack for one-on-one drill and skill building in addition to group lectures.

The Medway, Massachusetts, local established his playing roots at Catholic Memorial where he led the squad to the 2015 State Championship and three Catholic Conference crowns. Individually he garnered a pair of Catholic Conference All-Star nods and served as captain as a senior.
