Men’s Basketball Takes Care of Curry to Close Regular Season, 72-59

BOSTON – Four players supplied double figures to Suffolk men's basketball's 72-59 victory over Curry Saturday afternoon that capped off the regular season for the Rams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk went scoreless for the first 3:20, which allowed Curry to jump out to an 8-0 edge.  

Danny Yardemian and Jake Gomez teamed up for a 7-2 Rams run that put the host within three, but four quick points by the Colonels restored a two-possession gap, 14-7. 

A Gomez jumper ignited a 13-0 Suffolk stretch that sent the host ahead, 20-14, with just under eight to go before halftime. That spurt featured back-to-back 3-pointers by Devin Dzikas, the first from NBA range and four more points by Yardemian.  

The blue-and-gold maintained that margin at the half, 30-24. 

Roles reversed to start the second as the Colonels went without a point for the first 3:35 and Suffolk poured in 13 unanswered to stretch to build a near 20-points, 43-24, at the 16:39 mark. 

Curry worked its way back to within 11, 51-40, at the midway point of the second, before the Rams rattled off nine straight points to make it a 20-point game, 60-40, with 8:26 on the clock.

The Rams kept the Colonels at a comfortable 14-point distance the rest of the way to end the regular season in the win column. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Yardemain supplied 16 points on a 7-for-16 showing from the field with eight boards, two assists and two steals. 
  • Gomez pitched in 14 points on a 4-for-5 effort from the floor and 6-for-8 showing from the free throw line. He grabbed 10 boards to go along with three helpers and one takeaway. 
  • Cole LeVangie logged 11 points, three caroms, one dime, one block and one takeaway. The junior shot 3-for-7 from behind-the-arc. 
  • Keenan Robertson rounded out the Rams with double figures with 10 points with a 4-for-8 effort from the floor to go along with eight rebounds, three handouts and three steals. 
  • Suffolk out rebounded Curry, 44-35. 
  • The Rams scored 20 points off the Colonels 17 turnovers. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk moved to 36-7 all-time against Curry. 
  • Suffolk has won 10 games in a row against the Colonels. 
  • Suffolk is unbeaten, 8-0 against Curry with Jeff Juron on the bench. 
  • In Boston, Suffolk is 13-5 against Curry. 
  • Gomez has the second double-double of his collegiate career, first since Feb. 11, 2023 against Gordon.

Suffolk has a spot in the 2024 CCC Men's Basketball Tournament. The Rams await their official seeding, which will be unveiled at the conclusion of all regular-season action tonight.
