Men’s Basketball Puts Four on NABC Honors Court

NABC HONORS COURT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the third time in as many years, four student-athletes on the Suffolk men's basketball team collected a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for academic excellence. George GrillakisBrendan MulsonRyan O'Connell and Cameron Powers appeared on the list that the national organization released Wednesday afternoon.

To be eligible for the distinction, a student-athlete must be either a junior or senior academically, have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

Grillakis is the lone two-time honoree for the Rams this year, earning the recognition a year ago, while his fellow member of Suffolk's Class of 2020 Powers picked up the feat for the first time in his career along with rising seniors Mulson and O'Connell.

Suffolk's four student-athletes are the most among Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honorees with Colby Sawyer, Regis and Saint Joseph's (Maine) each seeing three take home the feat. Salve Regina was the Rams' only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterpart, which will see Suffolk compete in 2020-21, to see players garner the status with five Seahawks recognized.

NABC has been honoring student-athletes for academic achievements with the Honor Court since the 2006-07 season. Suffolk's first nods came with a pair of nods in 2008-09. Since Jeff Juron took over the reins of the program in 2015-16, 11 Rams have combined for 15 NABC Honor Court awards. Overall, the blue-and-gold has seen 13 student-athletes grab 17 NABC Honor Court nods.
