Suffolk Sweeps GNAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

BOSTON – Fueling Suffolk men's basketball to its fourth straight win, junior Jim Djema and freshman Brendan Mulson swept the GNAC weekly awards. Djema earned GNAC Corvias Player of the Week, while Mulson was honored as GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week.

By claiming both honors, Suffolk is the first school to earn GNAC Corvias Player of the Week and GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week in the same week this season and Albertus Magnus did so Dec. 14, 2015. The dual honors mark the first time a pair of Rams were the conference weekly honors in the Jeff Juron era and since Colin Halpin and Caleb Unni swept the league's weekly accolades Dec. 4, 2012. Individually, Djema earns his first-ever weekly accolade in his collegiate career becoming the first Ram to bring home the conference's top player over a seven day stretch since Halpin Dec. 4, 2012. Mulson, meanwhile, picked up his second rookie weekly recognition this season.

The pair of players combined for 37 points to lead Suffolk to a 79-69 win over UMass Boston. The victory is the first for Suffolk against its inner city foe since 2007 and ninth-ever in the all-time series, which dates back to 1990. The triumph ran Suffolk's win streak to four, which is the most wins in a row since matching that number Nov. 22-Dec. 4, 2014.

Djema had a career-night in the win as the floor general, who hails from Greenwich, Connecticut, dropped a career-high 28 points off a 75 percent connection rate from the floor and 6-for-9 on the long ball. His six triples match a career best as well. Djema added three boards, one assist and one steal to his stat line.

Mulson, a forward who calls Albany, New York home, had an all-around game, contributing nine points, six rebounds, including five on the defensive end, and one handout.

At 5-4 on the season, Suffolk is off to its best start 2014-15.

The Rams are currently on a three-week hiatus for finals and the holidays and will return to action after the New Year when Suffolk looks to stretch its streak when Framingham State stops by Regan Gymnasium Wednesday, Jan. 3 for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
