Men's Basketball Falls at Emerson, 73-54

BOSTON - To open 2016, the Suffolk men's basketball team crossed the Boston Commons where it played in a hard fought battle with its city neighbor Emerson. Despite a strong effort from the Rams, the Lions were able to pull ahead going into halftime and never looked back, closing the game 73-54.

Suffolk (3-7) opened the day with a quick layup by Matt Duquette, only 25 seconds into the game. The Lions (5-6) responded with a jumper by Geoffrey Gray and a layup by John Geary to take the lead, 4-2. As both teams battled for control of the ball, the Rams found a gap in the Lions defense, allowing Matt McLean to hit a 3-pointer to retake the lead, 17-16.

Geary responded for the Lions with a triple of his own, which sparked the Emerson offense to ened the half 32-24 in favor of the hosts.  This sparked the Emerson offense as they went on a run to close the half 32-24.

In the second half Suffolk continued to fight, but was unable to make up any ground against the Emerson lead. Leading for the Rams was Duquette with 13 points, followed closely by Jake Meister and Michael Hagopian, who both had 10 points.

Stat leaders for the Lions include Sean Duffy with 12 points and five rebounds. Geary was right behind him with 11 points. Leading in rebounds was Austin Pinckney with nine and freshman Will Lantier with eight.
