Meister's Clutch Shot Sinks AMCATS In Men's Basketball Victory

Sophomore Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) nailed a three-pointer with one second left on the clock to lift the Suffolk University Men's Basketball team to a 74-71 victory over the Anna Maria College AMCATS in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening.

Junior Matt Powers (Westwood, Mass.) led all scorers with 18 points on the evening for the Rams as Suffolk records back-to-back victories to open up the second half of their regular season schedule with Tuesday's victory improving their overall  record to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 mark in GNAC play.

The AMCATS finished the evening with four players registering double digits in scoring for the contest. Sophomore Tyler Delorey (Worcester, Mass.) scored eight of his game's 14 points in the second half on 3-for-4 shooting from the floor. Senior Joseph Barillo (Dania Beach, Fla.) also registered 14 points on the evening for Anna Maria who drop to a 3-7 mark on the season with Tuesday's loss and 1-2 in GNAC action. Barillo finished 4-for-6 from beyond the arc in the contest.

Both teams played an even game throughout the 40 minutes of action as the lead changed hands on 17 different occassions.

Both teams would continue to trade baskets up until the final minute of play. With one minute remaining in regulation sophomore Kyle McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) would bring Anna Maria within a point as his layup made it a 69-68 game.

Suffolk sophomore Adam Chick (Northbrook, Ill.) would later give the Rams some breathing room as he was sent to the line with thirty-eight seconds remaining on the clock and knocked down a pair of free throws to put Suffolk back up by three points.

Neither team would be able to score on their ensuing possesions until Delorey grabbed a rebound in the paint and went up for a layup that scored while also being fouled in the process. He would goto the line knocking down the extra shot bringing the game to a 71-71 standstill with twenty seconds remaining.

On the final possesion of the game, sophomore Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) would drive to the lane and find a wide open Meister in the right corner who sunk the game clinching shot from beyond the arc.

Meister finished the evening with five points, while also registering a team-high eight rebounds.

Suffolk held a 32-30 advantage in rebounds during the game over the AMCATS.

Chick recorded five assists in the eveving for the Rams to go along with a 13-point performance that was highlighted by 7-for-8 shooting from the free-throw line.

Junior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) also added 11 points, while freshman Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) gave Suffolk a strong inside presence scoring 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the floor.

Freshman Trevon Farley (Lawrence, Mass.) was 5-for-6 from the field in the contest for the AMCATS as he registered 12 pointed on the night. The AMCATS shot a combined 53.7-percent from the floor as a team in the contest (29-for-54). Junior Hugh Daye (Worcester, Mass.) rounded out the scoring sheet with 11 points.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action this upcoming Thursday evening. Anna Maria will travel to Lasell College for a 7:00pm tip-off with the Lasers. Suffolk heads south to Providence to take on the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats beginning at 7:00pm.
