Men's Basketball Suffer GNAC Setback

The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team posted an 80-64 victory over Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Saturday evening.

Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Quarry Greenway (Westchester, N.Y.) with 24 points and eight rebounds while senior captain Dan Barbour (Bridgeport, Conn,) added 17 points in the victory. Freshman Tom Garrick, Jr. (Seekonk, Mass.) added 13 points and five boards for the Wildcats.

Freshman Adam Chick (Northbrook, Ill.) paced Suffolk with 15 points and six rebounds while senior Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) added 14 points and two boards in the setback for the Rams.

Johnson & Wales raced out to an early 13-0 lead, capped by a jumper by sophomore Jordan Jones (Providence, R.I.) with 15:36 left in the first half. The Wildcats led by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking the 41-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. JWU shot 50% (16-of-32) from the field in the stanza and held a 21-14 advantage on the boards.

Suffolk trimmed the lead to just eight points when a three pointer by freshman Chris Unni (Wincehster, Mass.) made the score 48-41 with 16:16 remaining. That would be as close as the Rams would get, however as the Wildcats used a 20-2 run, capped by a layup by junior Frank Robinson (Providence, R.I.) with 10:48 left on the clock to make the score 68-43. JWU then cruised to the 80-64 victory.
