Baseball Bounces Back in Game Two, Shutouts Lasell in Seven, 15-0

EAST BOSTON – Pierce Salbego tossed 6.0 scoreless innings and the Rams bats came alive to send Suffolk baseball to a 15-0, seven-inning nightcap win over Lasell Sunday at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk put up runs in the first three innings to take a comfortable 11-0 cushion.  

Jonny Gilbride rocked a one-out double in the home half of the first to get the bats going. The senior scored on Harry Painter's single up the middle. Painter swiped second, advanced on third on Alex Sorenti-Burns' ground out to the pitcher and coasted in thanks to Max Iorio's single through the left side.  

In the second, Garret Roberts collected an RBI on a triple to right center. Sam Armbruster scored on the play after reaching on a base hit up the middle. The sophomore got into scoring position after Colin Flynn laid down a bunt and sacrificed himself. 

Suffolk batted around the order in the third to stretch the distance to double figures. Painter and Gilbride brought in two runs each in the rally that saw Painter produce a double as well as Max Martin

Despite a scoreless fourth, the Rams kept their feet on the gas pedal and poured in four more runs in the fifth to length their lead to 15. Painter led off with a double and ran in on Iorio's single to center. With the bases chucked, Armbruster sent a base hit through the right side to plate Iorio. After a pitching change, Colin Flynn worked a walk and Gilbride wore a pitch to brings the final two runs of the game in.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Salbego allowed just four hits over 6.0 innings and fanned six batters en route to the victory.
  • Brett Bucklin tossed 1.0 inning of scoreless, hitless relief with one K to his credit. 
  • Zachary Simone took the loss for the Lasers. The starter gave up six runs on seven hits and one walk through 2.1 innings. 
  • The Lasers cycled through five different relief arms including Pierce Clare (4 R, 3 BB), Adam Marsh (1.2 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 K), Owen Caldwell (0.1 IP, 4 R, 3 H, 1 BB), Ethan Bernardo (0.2 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) and Brad Feeder (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K).  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Painter went 4-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored and one stolen base. Half of the first baseman's hits were doubles.  
  • Gilbride supplied three RBI on a 2-for-4 effort that featured one double. The shortstop scored twice. 
  • Roberts registered two RBI on a 2-for-4 performance with one run scored. One of the DH's hits was a triple. 
  • Iorio had a near identical stat line to Roberts with a 2-for-4 showing, two RBI and one run scored. The centerfielder added one walk as well. 
  • Armbruster rounded out the Rams with multiple hits. The sophomore put together a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored one RBI and one walk. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk improved to 33-4 all-time against Lasell. 
  • In the Anthony Del Prete era, Suffolk is now 19-4 versus the Lasers. 
  • Salbego sat down a personal-best six batters.
  • Painter matched a career-high two doubles.
  • Bucklin made his Rams debut out of the pen.

Suffolk rides the momentum from its victory to the Sunshine State where the Rams will compete in nine games over nine days at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
