Gordon Spoils Baseball’s CCC Opener, 12-4

WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk baseball's offense never got going and Gordon capitalized on its opportunities to take down the Rams in their inaugural CCC contest, 12-4, Saturday afternoon at J. Tec White Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | Gordon 12
RECORDS: Suffolk (3-2, 0-1 CCC) | Gordon (1-2, 1-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk had an opportunity to break on the board in the first inning as the first three Rams in the rotation reached. Joe Pedulla sat down the next three blue-and-gold bats, however, and the visitors stranded the bases loaded to keep zeros on the board.

Two innings later Suffolk juiced the bags again and this time took advantage. With two outs, Tim Brigham singled to right center to push Blase Cormier over and Christian Seariac followed with a base on balls to put all the ducks in the pond. Zack Aresty's bat produce the first runs of Suffolk's CCC tenure as the senior emptied the bases on a single up the middle combined with a costly Gordon errror to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.

The Fighting Scots had a response in the home half of the inning as they started to figure out Parker Browne. The Rams' righty took care of business on for the first two outs, but then Gordon got going. The combination of singles and wild pitches allowed the hosts to erase Suffolk's lead and take one of its own, 4-3.

Cormier made up the ground in the top of the fifth. The double to center field by the junior plated Rich Gilbride, who opened the inning with a single up the middle, to knot the contest at 4-all.

The back-and-forth action came again in the bottom of the fifth as the Fighting Scots regained the edge thanks to S. Demers' double to right center. That go-ahead hit for two bags was the end of Browne's day on the bump and Michael Muscarella came in to take over.

Muscarella had a tough day on the hill as well and Gordon used that in its favor to go ahead, 8-4 after five innings.

Suffolk sat down in order in the sixth before the Fighting Scots added four insurance runs in their next go at the dish.

With eight runs to make up, Marc Birbiglia started the seventh with a single up the middle. Gilbride flew out to center for the first out of the inning and Cormier hit into a double play to end the Rams' hope of a comeback.
